Collaborative Art Boards - 2016 - 2018
Inspired by Guillermo Kuitca's "Diarios", the Collaborative Art Boards are a series of artwork created collaboratively between Ben Schumitz and friends. They are a way of experimenting with material, imagery and process as much as they are a way of learning how to create work together.
The Project, The People, The Process
Inspired by the Diarios series by Guillermo Kuitca, the collaborative art boards are an experiment in recording the passage of time amongst multiple people in a given space. Usually this space is a domestic environment. The style and content of each board is determined by who contributes to the board over a time period ranging from days to weeks. Those who contribute are usually the people who live or work in the direct space and those only visiting or passing through. Often times the boards go through multiple phases before we reach a point where we consider them "finished".
The goal of the collaborative art boards to serve not only as a source of pure creation and experimentation but also to bring various styles and personalities together to collaboratively come to a conclusion that all parties can deem cohesive or final.
